Ben Smith is a Principal Engineer at Dopl Technologies, bringing over 15 years of experience building high-performance systems, engines, and tools across console, mobile, VR, and web platforms. He most recently spent six years at Rec Room as a Principal Software Engineer, where he worked across the full stack to deliver multiplayer gaming experiences to millions of users worldwide.

Ben's technical breadth spans client and server development, real-time rendering, low-latency video streaming, and infrastructure tooling. Prior to Rec Room, he led engineering efforts at Z2, Arkadium, and Pluto VR, building everything from live service games with millions of players to AR applications and automated testing frameworks. He's architected data-oriented ECS systems, developed game engines deployed on millions of Windows devices, and most recently applied AI/ML to improve user-generated content creation tools.

Ben earned his degree from DigiPen Institute of Technology in 2003 and has since built a career at the intersection of complex technical challenges and user experience. At Dopl, he is focused on creating a secure, maintainable, and scalable platform that enables healthcare providers to deliver remote medical procedures with reliability and precision.

Having spent years building systems that connect people across distances, Ben is drawn to Dopl's mission of making specialized healthcare accessible regardless of geographic location.

Ben lives in Seattle with his wife, two kids, and two cats. His hobbies include cooking, hiking, and cycling the Pacific Northwest.

Fun fact: Ben and his wife are both huge fans of the Eurovision song contest and throw a big viewing party every year!
